If you decide a habit really matters, -- like REALLY -- I like to employ my ingenius 'golden rule'. It's a two parter, so do try to keep focus:
1) If a new habitroutine is important to you, you must first swear to never give up.
2) If you fail at it, you must persevere, but, going forward, you must both make the habit smaller AND increase the stakes -- increase the immediate punishment of not doing it.
Eventually, pretty quickly actually, you will find the sweet spot where you simply don't fail anymore. Then, when you're ready, when you've built momentum, you'll be able to scale the habit back up.
